Baptism

N's Baptism was this past Sunday. It was up near her grandparent's in the same parish that we got married in. It was a nice ceremony that included 4 other babies. Don & Elaine are her God parents.

N wore the same gown that most of H's family has worn.N got to visit with lots of family from both sides.

Seattle

B's group at work won a trip to receive an award in Seattle. All 3 of us went. It was nice to get away after learning of N's hearing problems. We flew out Friday morning. N did wonderfully on the plane. We stayed downtown within walking distance to everything. We spent Saturday being tourist. We walked a lot! We sampled Pike's Place, went up in the Space Needle, shopped and enjoyed local eateries. The food and the company was great. N saw about five minutes of Seattle, all of the fresh air knocked her out. She received many, many compliments on her bear coverall.

As you can tell N enjoyed the downtown hotel's fluffy pillows.

Not so good news

N failed her hearing screening when she was born. We were told it probably was just fluid in her ears and to schedule a follow up exam. Well, she had further testing done last week. She is completely deaf in her left ear and can only hear above 70 db (equivalent to very loud yelling) in her right ear. We were obviously overwhelmed by the news. She is seeing specialist at one of the children's hospitals in town. She will be fitted for hearing aids soon. However, the audiologist doubts that she will get much benefit from them. If they prove to be of little benefit N will more than likely get cochlear implants between 9 and 12 months. The cochlear implants will allow her to develop full language skills by the time she enters kindergarten. They would need to be adjusted from time to time but it seems very hopeful.

Shots!

N had her first set of shots on Monday. She was a trooper and handled it pretty well other than the screams at the doctor's office. She is up to 12 lbs and 23.5 in now at a little shy of 7 weeks. She slept most of that day, which was good because H had some running around to do including getting the flu shot. Fun, Fun. N has discovered that her swing is pretty relaxing--thanks again Hemo gals!
